Overview
The City University of New York (CUNY) is the public university system of New York City. CUNY’s 26 institutions make up the 3^rd largest university system in the United States. CUNY facilities account for 26 million square feet across 300 buildings, on 24 Campuses, and consume roughly 1% of New York City’s power. CUNY is exercising leadership in addressing climate change by reducing energy use and GHG emissions at its senior and community college campuses under the Sustainable CUNY program.

The goal of this series of projects was to address specific infrastructure needs within a constrained development and execution timeline. These projects addressed indoor environmental quality, noise, resilience, and building efficiency.

Details
Projects have been completed at several campuses, and have ranged from Building Management Systems to system redesign and mechanical equipment replacement.

Baruch College – An overhaul and Building Management System was implemented to the air handling system. By restoring the air handlers to nearly new condition and properly controlling outside air, both building health and efficiency were achieved

Hunter College – Redesign and replacement of both chiller and air handler systems added resiliency to systems that are critical to learning spaces.

New York City College of Technology – Identify and replace system components that were restricting building comfort and performance. By removing and replacing a heat exchanger system, the plant was able to achieve waterside economizing and successfully cool the building at low load conditions.
